Although the federation is a registered charity, most clubs hold regular fundraising events for their chosen charity, with virtually all clubs donating funds to charities each year. Big Pete is a two-seater truck which allows them to take competition winners and special guests for rides, this makes the trucks and crew hands-on approach like no other. Not only do they crush cars they can jump clean over them, pull them in half and much more. The 11 clubs are; Ashdon and Saffron Walden, Brentwood, Chelmsford Colchester, Dunmow, Halstead, Maldon, Mersea, Ongar, Southminster and Wix. Essex Young Farmers is run by its members for its members so everyone has the chance to have a say in what goes on.
Essex Young Farmers is a rural youth organisation that gives young people the chance to have fun and meet lots of new friends. There are lots of other opportunities through joining young farmers, you can not only improve your skills in a number of areas, there are also opportunities to attend training weekends and apply to go on overseas travel experiences. There is a county committee, which is made up of sub committees all of which are run by young farmers. One of our members is currently in Australia and last year one of our members went on a 3 month educational exchange to Zambia.

After Dinner Speaking Team Each club meets one evening a week and has its own committee who organise a varied programme for their weekly meetings from ice skating trips to race nights, talks from hypnotherapists and gun dog demonstrations, the list is endless. Most weekends parties take place around the county, hosted by clubs and by county. In 2012 we had 450 Young Farmers attend and everyone seemed to have a very enjoyable day. Established for over 30 years, The Essex Young Farmers Country Show is one of the premier agricultural shows in the county, with average attendances in excess of 14,000. In April we host a Prelims weekend consisting of a party on the Friday night and the Sunday is a day of competitions, most of them lighthearted ones! This years prelims day is Sunday 14th April.
The clubs also compete against each other in friendly competitions such as football, hockey, rugby and netball as well as other competitions such as ready steady cook, public speaking, stock judging, aerobics and many more. The Show is organised and run by a committee of Essex Young Farmers, which is a fantastic achievement considering the scale of the event.
